Scrabble Rules & Scoring

Each player draws and maintains exactly 7 tiles on their rack at all times. After playing a word, you replenish your rack from the bag until the bag is empty.

The first player must place a word of at least two letters that covers the center star square. This very first word automatically earns a Double Word score.

Yes. Instead of playing a word, you can use your turn to exchange any number of tiles from your rack with new ones from the bag. You forfeit your turn to score points when doing this.

Calculate any Double or Triple Letter bonuses first, then apply Double or Triple Word bonuses to the total. Premium squares only count the very first time a tile is placed on them.

If you successfully play all 7 tiles from your rack in a single turn, you earn a 'Bingo'. This adds a massive 50-point bonus to your score after all other math for that word is calculated.

A blank tile can represent any letter, but it is always worth exactly 0 points, even if placed on a Double or Triple multiplier square.

The game ends when the tile bag is empty and one player plays their final tile, or when all players pass their turn twice in a row because no more words can be made.

When the game ends, the point value of any unplayed tiles left on a player's rack is deducted from their total score. If a player went out (used all their tiles), the sum of everyone else's unplayed tiles is added to their final score.
